Coralife Digital Thermometer

So my corals have not been looking good as of late, tested my water, everything was where is should be. I calibrate my refractometer every few weeks due to it being off and causing a tank crash last year(It was reading 1.025 but salinity was actually 1.031). Could not figure out what was wrong. I put my hand in my tank(which I do not like to do) to move a piece of LR and was surprised how warm the water was. I checked the temp. with a regular glass aquarium one and the temp. was 86. My digital thermometer was actually stuck reading 78. The one of the heaters crapped out and was stuck on. So, back to the basic $1.99 thermometer for me. I guess the KISS principle applies to reef keeping as well; well for some things anyway.

I use this - http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/big-digital-temp-alert-lifegard.html

and my heater is on one of these https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01486LZ50/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The two are usually exactly on or within .1 of each other. I too was sick of my heater failure. For what its worth, the InkBird device has revitalized my old heaters where the controller part failed.

Others use an Apex or something fancy, but these two work for me. i have never calibrated my refractometer. I suppose I should do that.

Glad you caught it before any damage occurred. I always use those cheap stick on thermometers as a quick and easy back up.

I am pretty much done with digital thermometer. The $1.99 from Petco is better.

I use the old fashioned glass style they do not lie
